AC Transit’s board of directors will hold a public hearing Thursday, January 9, 2003, to accept comment on a proposed new ‘TransBay Express’ bus line linking the East Bay and the Peninsula via the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.
The hearing will be held in AC Transit’s Board Room at 1600 Franklin Street, 2nd Floor, in downtown Oakland, beginning at 6:00pm.
Send letters, facsimiles or email no later than 5:00pm, Tuesday, January 7, to be considered during the public hearing. Address written comments to AC Transit’s Planning Department, 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA 94612; by facsimile to 510 891-7157; or by email to planning@actransit.org.
Tentatively scheduled for March 2003, new Line M transbay service would link the transit center at BART/Hayward Station with the Hillsdale Caltrain Station in San Mateo. During commute hours, Line M would be extended in the East Bay to serve Caltrans’ Park and Ride lot (on Center Street at Interstate 580) and the BART station in Castro Valley.
Tailored to serve East Bay commuters headed to Foster City and San Mateo, and Peninsula residents going to the Hayward area, Line M will operate via Highway 92 (the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge) to serve commercial/business centers at Bridgepointe and Metro Center, the Foster City Library/City Hall, and via East Hillsdale Boulevard, the Hillsdale Caltrain station and Hillsdale Mall.
As proposed, Line M service would be initiated in March with seven scheduled trips both east and west bound during each weekday morning and afternoon commute period. Utilizing the toll plaza diamond lane, Line M trips would provide transit riders a significant travel time advantage, compared to trip times for drive-alone motorists.
