Fremont/Newark Scheduled Changes July 30 Hearing

News Articles
07/15/2003

Attend a public hearing scheduled for 6:00pm Wednesday, July 30, 2003, in the Sillman Center, 6800 Mowry Avenue in Newark, on proposed bus service adjustments, additions, and reductions in Southern Alameda County.

AC Transit proposes to reduce some 300 weekday service hours throughout Special Transit Service District 2 (Newark and Fremont). This is necessary to offset a multimillion dollar budget deficit resulting from the economic recession currently affecting public services throughout the Bay Area, the State of California, and the nation.

Read a description of proposed changes. See the map.

Local Service

  • Discontinue service entirely on four local lines (223, 234, 253 and 258) plus segments of seven other routes (Lines 210, 212, 214, 215, 231, 232, and 233)
  • Reduce frequency of scheduled bus trips on eight lines (214, 215, 217, 218, 219, 231, 232, and 233)
  • Extend or reroute service on eight bus lines (210, 214, 217. 219. 231, 232, 233 and 329)

TransBay Service

  • Introduce new, grant-funded Line U commute-hour service linking BART/Fremont and the Centerville train station with Stanford University via the Dumbarton Bridge
  • Reroute Line SB commuter service via Hesperian Boulevard to Tennyson Road (rather than Industrial Parkway) in Hayward

You may comment on these proposals in either writing, or speak at the July 30 public hearing.

Submit written comments by letter, facsimile or email prior to the hearing. To be considered by the AC Transit Board, comments must be received no later than 6:00pm Wednesday, July 30.

Address written comment to AC Transit, District Secretary, 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA 94612; send it by facsimile to 510-891-7157 or by email to planning@actransit.org
