Look for New Bus Shelters Along San Pablo

News Articles
09/10/2003

Intelligent shelters are now a part of the new Rapid Bus (72R) service along San Pablo Avenue. You can now wait at bus shelters that provide protection from inclement weather, and information about when your next bus will arrive.

Look for bus shelters along San Pablo Rapid Avenue with bus poles displaying color-coded route information. The colors match our new system maps. Oval signs with a Rapid decal designate Rapid stops. The decal is visible from either direction along San Pablo Avenue. In addition to the bus pole, each stop has a clearly marked waiting area for your safety.

Each shelter is equipped with bench seating for four people and a 15-gallon trash receptacle. With glass-panel walls for easy visibility and protection from the weather, at night shelters are internally lit for additional comfort and safety. Each bus shelter also has in-depth map, route and schedule information displayed in large type. All shelters have stop name identification and Rapid Bus/AC Transit logos.

Finally, every shelter contains NextBus Information. A digital display unit lets bus riders know when the next few buses along San Pablo corridor will arrive. Because of these bus shelters, you no longer need to guess about when your bus will pull into the stop.

The San Pablo Rapid Bus service is one of the most advanced bus lines in the country. All aspects of a passenger’s trip on the Rapid are greatly improved from the traditional bus service that AC Transit and other transit agencies run. This is true for the actual ride on the bus down to the newly designed bus stops.

The new service uses a number of technologically advanced tools to improve your trip including:

  • European, 3-door, low-floor Van Hool buses with state-of-the-art features for passenger comfort
  • Traffic signal timing and priority along the San Pablo corridor that allows buses to extend the green light signal and to wait less at all traffic intersections

Ride the Rapid!
