AC Transit has introduced new bus service on the San Mateo Bridge with six new Line M transbay round-trips on Saturdays and Sundays plus midday trips in both directions on weekdays.
Line M makes limited-stops between San Mateo and Castro Valley. In the East Bay, the express buses serve Chabot College and the Castro Valley and Hayward BART stations.
On the Peninsula, Line M delivers commuters to the Vintage Park and Metro Center business parks, the Foster City Public Library and City Hall, and Hillsdale Mall. Line M operates during the weekday with 17 scheduled trips in both directions arriving in Foster City between 6:00am and 6:30pm. Six weekend trips have been added to the schedule as well.
Operated with comfortable highway cruiser coaches, this TransBay Express service offers passenger amenities that include high back seats, reading lamps and overhead package racks. The trip over the widened San Mateo-Hayward Bridge takes less than 30 minutes from Hayward BART to Foster City.
AC Transit’s regular TransBay basic fares are: $3 per trip for adults, $1.50 for riders through 17, 65 and older and those with certified disabilities. A copy of the schedule can be found at http://www.actransit.org/riderinfo/schedules/M.html. Schedules are also available at locations throughout Foster City, including the Recreation Center, Library, and City Hall.
Established last year as a weekday-only commuter service, Line M is a grant-funded addition to the Bay Area’s Regional Express Bus program. The federally-funded Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grant initially underwriting the bus route is being augmented by Bay Area Toll Authority funds to provide the new midday and weekend service.
