AC Transit is doing new construction at its operating divisions to comply with state environmental regulations.
Improvements at the District’s operating facilities bring AC Transit into full compliance with the state Water Resources Control Board regulations. In addition, California’s Air Resources Board has required upgrades to gasoline tanks and fueling systems to further reduce any emission of fuel vapors.
AC Transit has four Divisions slated for these improvements. They are located in Emeryville, Hayward, East Oakland, and Richmond.
Currently, at the Richmond Division, new, smaller 500-gallon storage vaults are replacing five old underground containers. Once installed above ground, the new containers will be easier to monitor, maintain, and repair. At the same time, the Richmond Division’s fuel dispensers, now installed above ground, must be upgraded to prevent leakage into the soil.
California’s Air Resources Board exercises adjudicatory and regulatory functions of the state in the field of air resources. California’s Legislature established the Air Resources Board (ARB) in 1967 to attain and maintain healthy air quality.
