Beginning Sunday, June 27, or Monday, June 28 for weekday-only routes, AC Transit will introduce bus service changes in an ongoing effort to offset a multimillion-dollar shortfall in operating funds from a sluggish economy.

The District is reducing operating expenses by about $4 million by discontinuing three bus lines, changing or shortening the routes of several others, and curtailing the number of trips or span of service on still others. For some bus lines, service is either retained or expanded and improved.
In Oakland, Line 47 to Maxwell Park and Line 59/59A to Montclair — previously slated for elimination — continues in service. During commute hours, Line 59 only operates between Lake Merritt BART and Piedmont Avenue at 41st Street. Midday and weekends, Lines 59/59A serves Montclair and BART/Rockridge.
In West Contra Costa County, Line 74 schedules provide better connections with BART in Orinda. Also, Line 70 no longer operates between Del Norte and Richmond BART,discontinuing service on Garvin and Arlington Avenues (service to Adams Middle School continues).
In Hayward, Line M service via the San Mateo Bridge will be revised to better coordinate arrival and departure schedules with the Baby Bullet trains at the Hillsdale Caltrain station. Also, look for a new evening round-trip. All Line M buses now handle up to six bicycles on each trip.
In Fremont and Newark, Lines 213 and 232 are shortened, with some discontinued segments being replaced by new Line 216 on weekdays and Line 332 on weekends. Other changes throughout the system:
- Discontinued: Lines 21, 35X and 36X
- Changed or reduced schedules on Lines 9, 12, 13, 15, 40 (on weekends), 57, 71, 80, 81, 82/82L, 85, 91 and 93, and transbay Lines E, F, G, LA, N, O and Z
- Reduced span of service for Lines 54, 56, 67 and Transbay Line F, which gets fewer weekday trips but additional weekend service
- Extended route for Line W
- Additional trips and more weekend service for Transbay Lines CB, F, L and P, and local Line 50
