A record number of riders are traveling AC Transit’s new Line M, which now carries more than 300 passengers per day, according to Tony Divito, senior transportation planner for AC Transit.
Express cruiser coaches equipped with high back seats and overhead package racks offer limited-stop service between Castro Valley, Hayward BART and Chabot College in the East Bay, and Foster City business parks, Foster City Civic Center, Hillsdale Caltrain, and Hillsdale Mall on the Peninsula.
The service is also a great way for bicyclists to get across the bay (even to Half Moon Bay by connection with SamTrans at Hillsdale). Each express bus can transport up to six bicycles, two on a front-mounted bike rack and another four bicycles lying flat in the cargo bay.
The service was launched in March, 2003. Line M is part of AC Transit’s Transbay bus service, which offers 24 lines to San Francisco and two lines to the Peninsula. Transbay fares are: $3 per trip for adults; $1.50 for riders 5 through 17, 65 and older, and those with certified disabilities.
A map and schedule for Line M is available at: http://www.actransit.org/riderinfo/schedules/M.html.
Divito said that in the near future AC Transit is looking to expand the service to Redwood Shores and the Oracle business park.
Interested in going to Ano Nuevo State Park to visit the elephant seals on the weekend? Line M arrives at Hillsdale at 9:40AM and connects with the 10:00AM SamTrans departure to Half Moon Bay and Ano Nuevo.
