Ride To S.F. Free During Spare The Air Days

News Articles
06/01/2005

When the air gets bad this summer you’ll get a free ride to the City.  AC Transit is participating in Spare The Air Days, along with other Bay Area transit agencies, to get drivers to take transit when air quality is at its worst.  When a Spare The Air Day is declared by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), AC Transit riders boarding between 4am and 9am will ride free.

Whenever the Air Quality Index  exceeds 100, BAAQMD notifies Bay Area transit agencies and the public that the following day will be a Spare The Air Day. An Air Quality Forecast is maintained on the BAAQMD website throughout the summer so you can check air quality just like you would the weather.  Typically, unhealthy ozone levels build up in summer months when the weather is hot, traffic is heavy, and winds are low.

The program is limited to the first five Spare The Air Days between now and October 14, excluding weekends and holidays.  To be alerted by email when a Spare The Air Day is declared, click here.  Riding the bus is a great way to help reduce smog and Spare The Air!
