Free Internet Access On Transbay Buses

News Articles
06/10/2005

Would you like to surf the web from your laptop while you ride the bus?  Would you be more productive if you could read and send email while you commute?  AC Transit wants to know if you would benefit from having wireless internet access aboard Transbay lines.

We have an opportunity to get a technology grant to cover the entire cost of installing and maintaining a WiFi system on Transbay buses.  Anyone with a laptop computer with wireless internet capability could then access the internet for free while riding the bus.  This is money that is only available for this specific purpose, so it could not be used for operations, nor would we divert money from our budget to this project.   There would be no cost to AC Transit and we would offer this service to riders for free.

Would you use this service if we offered it?  Would it help increase ridership?  These are questions we’d like to answer before moving forward on the grant application.  Please take a moment to complete this short survey (2-3 minutes) We’d like to hear from you whether you own a laptop computer or not.

Thank you for your help.
