AC Transit Responds to MacArthur Maze Collapse

Press Releases
04/29/2007

AC Transit will provide additional service on its existing bus lines in response to the freeway collapse at the MacArthur Maze. Additional passenger capacity is already available on local lines serving BART stations and on transbay lines to San Francisco. To augment existing service, all available buses and personnel will be deployed. However, delays are likely on many of the lines due to overall congestion.

In the morning, bus lines to San Francisco will stop at all regular bus stops, but may use alternate routes to get to the Bay Bridge. Because many buses make more than one trip to San Francisco during the morning commute, later trips leaving the East Bay may be delayed if buses have to use a longer route to return to the beginning of the line. AC Transit will attempt to make all scheduled trips, even if they are delayed.

The evening commute from San Francisco will be significantly affected. Bus lines that normally use I-580 from San Francisco will be rerouted. Additional buses will be available in San Francisco in order to maintain schedules as much as possible and to provide additional passenger capacity.

Local bus lines may also be affected during the day by automobile traffic diverted from the freeways onto local streets.
