Applicants Sought to Fill AC Transit Board Vacancy

Press Releases
01/06/2009

The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) Board of Directors is seeking applicants to fill a vacant At-Large seat on its seven member body which is responsible for establishing policy for the public bus system serving an estimated 236,000 daily riders throughout the East Bay.

The vacant At-Large seat represents the entire District, which consists of all East Bay cities (except Union City) and adjacent unincorporated communities (west of the hills) from Richmond/San Pablo in the north to Fremont in the south.  Persons interested in filling this vacancy must live and be registered to vote within the District’s geographic boundaries.

The new director will be expected to participate in regular District Board meetings, normally held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, and to serve on one or more of the Board Committees which usually meet on the Board meeting days.  Attendance at other meetings may be required.  The new director will be required by California’s Political Reform Act of 1974 (Government Code section 81000, et seq.) to file a Statement of Economic Interest form within 30 days of taking office and annually thereafter.  AC Transit’s directors receive compensation in the amount of $1,000 per month provided that the directors attend all noticed and scheduled meetings which they are a member of for that month.

In filling the At-Large seat, this new policymaker will serve out the remainder of former AC Transit Director Rebecca Kaplan’s term of office, which ends on the first Friday in December, 2010.  At that time, the seat will then be filled by the candidate selected by the voters to a four year term in the November 2010 general election held district-wide.

Persons wishing to be considered for appointment to fill this Board vacancy must submit a resume, a statement or letter of not more than two pages expressing the applicant’s interest in and qualifications for selection (including pertinent experience and time availability), and letters of recommendation from three individuals.

Address applications to the AC Transit Board President. Applications must be received on or before Friday, February 6, 2009 at noon to Linda Nemeroff, District Secretary, AC Transit District, 1600 Franklin Street, 10th Floor, Oakland, California 94612. Selection will be made by March 6, 2009.  For further information, contact the District Secretary’s Office at (510) 891-7284 or visit the agency’s web site
