Ride the 1R International Rapid!

News Articles
01/28/2009

The 1R Rapid is on the move! The International Rapid is the second most heavily used line in the entire AC Transit service area.

The 1R runs from Bay Fair BART in San Leandro through downtown Oakland to UC Berkeley along East 14th Street, International Boulevard, and Telegraph Avenue. On weekends, the service operates between Bay Fair BART and downtown Oakland only.

The success of the Rapid can be attributed to leading-edge features that provide a faster, easier, and more convenient ride than traditional bus service:

  • Buses run every 12 minutes from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and every 15 minutes between Bay Fair BART and downtown Oakland on the weekends
  • Fewer stops, reducing travel time
  • Signal prioritization, so buses spend less time waiting at red lights
  • NextBus arrival signage, so riders know when the next bus is coming
  • Distinctively branded buses, bus stops, and shelters
