AC Transit is pleased to announce the latest residential community to join the District’s EasyPass program. The Park Alameda, a 62-unit, green and sustainable-workforce housing development, is providing every resident an EasyPass, giving unlimited rides on AC Transit. The transit-oriented development is ideally located in the historic Park Street District in Alameda, with access to excellent bus service, jobs, and a full range of retail and service amenities.
Resident Doretha McPhatter received the first Park Alameda EasyPass. “When I used my EasyPass on the bus for the first time, I was excited to hear the ‘beep’ of approval,” she said, referring to tagging her EasyPass on the Clipper card reader. “I look forward to planning trips to a lot of new Bay Area destinations with my EasyPass.”
AC Transit representatives are taking residents’ photos for their personalized Clipper cards loaded with the EasyPass, and distributing service information and rider tips for taking the bus. The development is served by local AC Transit lines 20, 21, and 51A, and transbay lines O and OX.
The Park Alameda developer, Resources for Community Development (RCD), transformed the 40-year-old Alameda Islander motel into the new environmentally friendly community. In addition to purchasing the EasyPass program, RCD has also used sustainable practices in the building itself, including installing specially insulated windows, water-heating solar thermal collectors, and more. The Park Alameda is managed by the John Stewart Company, which implements the green operations and maintenance goals of RCD.
About EasyPass
Park Alameda joins a growing number of employer, college, and residential EasyPass clients in the AC Transit service area. The program offers a group benefit at great savings, with pricing based on the number of eligible participants and the level of transit service provided at the client’s location.
Residential and commercial property developers or owners may qualify for density awards or bonuses, parking mitigation, tax deductions, and certain green certifications for providing an EasyPass program. Employers can see a reduction in payroll taxes while satisfying California’s new commuter benefit law (SB 1339).
