Riders Urged To Make Alternative Transit Plans
Planning for major disruptions in bus service, AC Transit is urging bus riders to make alternative transit plans during the Oakland Running Festival on Sunday, March 24.
Twenty-three (23) bus routes will be detoured and/or delayed to accommodate what is expected to be as many as 15,000 people running throughout the city of Oakland. The foot races, including a 26.2-mile marathon, will run practically all day from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
AC Transit plans to restore service on streets near the outer edges of the race course first. However, service to and from downtown Oakland will be disrupted for the duration of the festival and will be completely restored by 3:00 p.m. when the marathon race is concluded.
In the meantime, all of the affected routes will operate on modified detours and schedules. A temporary transit hub will be set up along Castro Street between 12th and 17th streets in Oakland where riders can connect to other buses or BART. A special, free shuttle bus will ferry passengers from West Oakland locations to downtown.
The shuttle will run a loop every 12 minutes from the hub via West Grand Avenue to Adeline Street to 10th Street and then back to the Castro Street hub for service onto 7th and 8th streets (7am–8:30am) or 14th St. (10:30am–3pm).
Oakland bus passengers are urged to make alternative plans for March 24, consider taking BART to downtown Oakland destinations and/or allow for a considerable amount of travel time to reach their Sunday destinations.
Service during the festival is subject to change. For the latest updates, bus riders are urged to check online at www.actransit.org; or call 511 and say “AC Transit.”
