Plan for Possible Walkout by Bus Operators & Mechanics
For the past three months, AC Transit management has been negotiating with the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) in an effort to reach a contract agreement and avoid any service disruptions due to labor strife with our operators and mechanics.
The agency has negotiated in good faith, hoping to secure either a labor accord or an extension of the current contract so as to maintain operations while continuing to resolve outstanding contract issues. So far, neither has occurred and the June 30, 12:00 a.m. contract deadline is fast approaching.
Although the negotiations are ongoing and AC Transit is hopeful for a resolution, bus riders should consider transit alternatives for Monday morning, July 1, in the event ATU bus operators and mechanics opt for a work stoppage.
While we will continue to provide updates on ATU labor issues, the AC Transit website will continue to be your best source of official and accurate information about AC Transit bus services and labor contract progress. Also please visit www.actransit.org for frequent updates or call 511 to aid in trip planning and other travel needs.
In the meantime, we are happy that we are able to provide our passengers and the public essential transit services as we strive to resolve labor issues.
