Starting December 15, bus service in southern Alameda County became dramatically different and dramatically better! After many challenging years resulting in cuts to service, AC Transit is happy to announce major improvements to its lines in southern Alameda County (Fremont and Newark, and some lines serving Union City, Hayward, and Milpitas).
AC Transit staff held four informational outreach events in December, to answer questions about the changes.
The major changes focus on service in Fremont and Newark, and include:
- New or expanded bus lines serving employment centers, civic and recreational centers, and shopping areas;
- More reliable schedule times and improved BART connections;
- More direct route patterns for certain bus lines;
- Increased frequency and longer hours on certain bus lines; and
- A consistent route network across the weekday, weeknight, and weekend.
Some of the locations enjoying new or improved service are: the Newark Senior Center, Newpark Mall, the Silliman Center/Newark Recreational Center, Ohlone College Newark campus, the Pacific Research Center, the LAM Research Loop, and the Lake Elizabeth recreational area.
Routing changes
Many of the reconfigured bus lines incorporate segments of old bus lines. Some of these lines may have the original line numbers, but deviate from the routes you previously used. It is important to look at the map to ensure you take the right bus line, or combination of lines, to complete your trip. The charts in this brochure provide descriptions of these changes, including some new hours of operation and frequency.
Line 200: A new bus line serving lots of locations!
Running seven days a week, this new line operates every 30 minutes on weekdays and weekends. Its weekday hours are 6 a.m. to midnight, and on weekends it runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It stops at several shopping centers (Four Corners, Fremont Hub, and Fremont Plaza), and during the week it offers service to the Pacific Research Center in Newark. Line 200 also provides new service for residential areas along Decoto Road and Mowry Avenue in Fremont, as well as service to and from Union City BART and Fremont BART. The Silliman Center is now served by Line 200 on weekends.
In addition, Line 200 replaces Line 333’s Flexbus service and provides consistent late-night service on weekdays. For its schedule, click here.
