Uses $2.4 Million to Upgrade On-Time Performance
With an overall investment of $2.4 million, AC Transit has completed the second of two summer service adjustments that will substantially improve the reliability of key trunk lines and enhance the bus service to and from San Francisco.
In August, six bus lines were revised to make the runs more reliable, including rescheduling for lines 51A and B to eliminate costly delays and bus bunching along one of the East Bay’s most congested traffic corridors.
Likewise, to improve weekend on-time performance particularly on Saturdays, additional time was added to Saturday schedules of several lines. On some other lines, especially in San Leandro and Hayward, schedules were adjusted to better serve local schools. And, to accommodate a prolonged surge in ridership, some new transbay trips have been added to relieve crowding on some buses that are operating at full capacity.
Previously in June, AC Transit introduced another series of changes to improve efficiency along several other routes. Most notably, to thwart late-running and bunched buses, additional schedule time was added on lines 1, 1R, 57, 72, 72M, and 72R.
There were also route changes in Central Fremont and western Newark to simplify routing and reduce time-consuming turns. Additionally, Line 200 on weekends and Line 275 on weekdays, now have more service in the evenings.
“We are making a host of small changes that will significantly elevate our overall quality of service,” said AC Transit General Manager David Armijo. “ We expect the cost of making the modifications will be offset by the improved efficiency and the growth in ridership it will yield.”
