AC Transit will offer FREE FARES on all bus lines after 8 p.m. New Year’s Eve
The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) wishes everyone a happy and prosperous New Year. So whether your plans include gazing at fireworks high above the Bay Area skyline, dinner with those you love, or a toast and rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne, AC Transit is your designated driver to and from your celebrations without cost.
In fact, for the second consecutive New Year’s Eve, AC Transit will offer free fares on all bus lines starting at 8:00 p.m. New Year’s Eve thru 5:00 a.m. New Year’s Day. During those designated hours, bus fare boxes and Clipper Card readers will be covered and will not accept payment.
“A safer AC Transit has been my pledge to riders throughout 2016,” says General Manger Michael Hursh. “And our New Year’s Eve Free Fare service is an additional safety tool for East Bay riders as this year comes to an end. No matter the size of your celebrations, getting there and home can be enjoyed virtually worry-free aboard our buses.”
Riders should take note that bus service on January 1st will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Customer Service Center at 1600 Franklin Street – normally closed on weekends – will be closed New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The Customer Service center will also be closed Monday, January 2nd in recognition of the legal New Year’s holiday. However, AC Transit Customer Phone Support will be available Saturday, December 31 between the hours, 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The Call Center will be closed Sunday, January 1st. Phone support will resume Monday, January 2nd from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
