To maintain and ensure accessibility by all members of the public, AC Transit is now seeking volunteers interested in assuming openings for the 2017 Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC).
The AAC’s mission is to review, comment, and advise the Board of Directors and District staff regarding the implementation and enhancement of programs and services for seniors and disabled people. The 14 member Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Agenda items traditionally focus on bus accessibility and plans to purchase operating equipment; appropriateness of bus stop locations; public education, awareness and input, and staff and operator training, awareness and sensitivity. The Committee’s collective commentary is then presented to AC Transit’s seven-member Board of Directors for consideration.
Citizens appointed to serve on the committee shall serve a term of one (1) year beginning March 1, 2017. Additionally, qualified applications received during this recruitment will be used to fill any mid-term vacancies that occur during the year. AC Transit actively encourages seniors, people with varying disabilities, and diverse ethnic backgrounds to apply. Each member of the Board of Directors will ultimately appoint two committee members.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Use AC Transit’s fixed-route service;
- A senior or individual with a disability and/or represent such groups; and
- Willing to devote the necessary hours to attend meetings.
Prospective applicants are requested to exercise respect for others, empathy for divergent points of view, and the ability to commit up to six (6) hours a month for committee-related work.
Applications may be found at the AC Transit Accessibility Advisory Committee page, or by calling the District Secretary’s Office at (510) 891-7209.
Completed applications can be faxed to: (510) 891- 4705, emailed to districtsecretary@actransit.org or sent through U.S. mail to the attention of the District Secretary, 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA 94612
DEADLINE: All applications must be returned by February 6, 2017.
