West Contra Costa and Alameda Counties schools close due to poor air quality
The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) wishes to advise all students and parents, in our two service areas, that widespread school closures have prompted a one-day cancellation of AC Transit’s Service to Schools.
Our transit district has been in close communication with administrators at the West Contra Costa Unified School District, the Alameda County Office of Education and private schools in our service areas. Their collective governing offices announced that the continued poor air quality warrants a full closure of schools.
As a result, AC Transit has canceled all school service for Friday, November 16 in the following cities: Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Castro Valley, El Cerrito, El Sobrante, Emeryville, Fremont, Hayward, Newark, Oakland, Piedmont, Richmond, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, San Pablo and Union City.
Please click for a full listing of AC Transit’s school bus lines in the affected cities.
Please note: The Crowden School in Berkeley will be open Friday, November 16. To support Crowden students, Line 688 will operate one coach during the morning hours and one coach in the afternoon.
We encourage families to visit actransit.org for all updates on Service to Schools. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to check your child’s school website for the latest school information.
