AC TRANSIT TEMPORARILY RELOCATES DOWNTOWN OAKLAND BUS STOPS
Press Releases
09/03/2019
Bus stop relocation starts the week of September 9, 2019; supporting the construction of AC Transit’s innovative Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) will begin construction of four Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) station platforms in downtown Oakland the week of September 9, 2019. These stations represent the final phases of major construction for the East Bay’s first-ever BRT system.
To expedite construction at multiple locations while safeguarding our riders, AC Transit will temporarily relocate some downtown Oakland bus stops starting the week of September 9 and continuing through late December 2019.
This temporary move shifts bus stops along northbound Broadway, between 12th Street and T.L. Berkley Way (20th Street), one block east to Franklin Street. Newly relocated stops start at Franklin and 12th Streets and continue through 15th Street. The following AC Transit Lines will service the newly established northbound stops: 6, 12, 18, 33, 51A, 72, 72M, 72R, 611, 801, 840, and 851.
Riders and motorist alike are reminded that Franklin Street is one-way northbound traffic; increased caution should be exercised around relocated stops and throughout BRT construction zones.
Although construction will permit buses to operate along southbound Broadway, AC Transit’s enhanced rider safeguard efforts include the decommission of stops between 12th and 14th Streets at Oakland City Center. To accommodate southbound Broadway travelers, a stop has been erected at 15th Street and Broadway. The following AC Transit Lines will service the newly established southbound stop: 33, 801, and 840.
AC Transit’s All-Nighter Owl Service will also undergo temporary bus stop relocation through late December 2019. Night Owl Lines 800, 801, 802, 805, 840, and 851 will shift bus transfers from 14th Street and Broadway to the Uptown Transit Center, located at Broadway and T.L. Berkley Way (20th Street).
In addition to an array of temporary bus stop signage, AC Transit will staff downtown Oakland with specially attired street ambassadors to assist riders in locating their bus stops and bus lines.
