Here’s the 40-footer in front of El Norte BART station in Richmond, CA. This is one of two prototype Van Hool buses that we are testing in regular service. Be sure to fill out our onboard survey.
The Van Hool heads into traffic riding in front of one of our older buses. Arrival of the Van Hool’s allows AC Transit to retire many buses with more than 800,000 miles of service.
AC Transit has ordered 134 of these forty-foot A330 Van Hool buses. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in April 2003, and completed by December 2003.
Instead of pulling a cord to signal the driver to stop, look for small devices mounted on upright poles, or on bulkheads next to windows. Just push a button to request that the driver stop.

The Van Hool bus provides easier access for people in wheelchairs. Wheelchair users roll up a ramp and park into a secured station located just behind the doors.
Buses are more spacious for people with strollers. No more bumping into packages and feet as you navigate up the aisle to a seat.
You’ll be able to bring your bicycle on the Van Hool bus, the same way you do today.
Look for our drivers wearing jackets and hats with our new silver and green AC Transit logo, which is featured on all Van Hool buses.
