Biography:
Elsa Ortiz, attorney and consultant to Senator and President Pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg on issues affecting Indian Nations, was elected in November 2006 to represent Ward 3. Director Ortiz was chief of staff and special assistant to California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer during his tenures as State Senator and Attorney General. She served on the Board of the Bay Area Conservation and Development Commission from 1996-1999. As a bilingual attorney in the California Department of Justice, she worked on issues affecting diverse interest groups. She earned her B.A. with Phi Beta Kappa honors and teaching credentials at the University of California at Berkeley and a J.D. at John F. Kennedy University of Law.
