See the Future of the Rapid

The next step in the evolution of the Rapid bus service is BRT – Bus Rapid Transit.

BRT is essentially light rail without the tracks. It combines the speed and capacity of light rail with the convenience and affordability of riding the bus. Vehicles travel in bus-only lanes, avoiding traffic. Passengers walk to comfortable stations, pay their fares in the station, and board through multiple doors like a train.Service is frequent and fast.

AC Transit’s first BRT will connect downtown Oakland and San Leandro along Broadway, 11th/12th streets, International Blvd., and East 14th Street. Buses will be powered by hybrid diesel. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2014 with service launching in 2016.
