Transbay Buses Will Continue Detouring to East Bay BART Stations
During the Labor Day weekend closure of the Bay Bridge, AC Transit buses will not be able to cross the span starting Thursday evening, September 3, until the bridge reopens, which is now scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 at 5:00 a.m., instead of Tuesday morning. The delay is due to a crack in the east span of the bridge that was discovered during -- but is not related to -- the planned seismic upgrade work.
Due to the delay in the reopening of the bridge, transbay buses will continue to detour to their assigned BART stations during the Tuesday morning and afternoon commutes, as shown below:

Keep in mind, for some passengers, it may be more convenient to take local service to the nearest BART station instead of a transbay line to the detour station. We encourage passengers to use one of AC Transit's online trip-planning features at www.actransit.org, or check out the system map and schedule to determine the most direct route. If you're not sure which local line(s) serves the nearest BART station, click here for a complete list.
And, a special note about eastbound travel from San Francisco: Please note that transbay buses picking up passengers at the four designated East Bay BART stations will operate on a flexible, "on-demand" schedule. This means that buses will not depart at specific times, but will wait until they have a full or nearly-full load. This is to avoid buses leaving empty or having to wait till a scheduled departure time when the bus has already reached capacity. We do not expect this to impact wait times significantly as BART trains run frequently enough for buses to fill quickly.
Fares to San Francisco
Going westbound to San Francisco, transbay passengers will pay a local AC Transit fare when they board the bus and then pay a separate BART fare to San Francisco. In the eastbound direction, passengers will pay the BART fare in San Francisco and should get a BART-to-Bus transfer upon exiting their East Bay BART station in order to pay a reduced local AC Transit fare. The two-part transfer will allow riders to receive a discounted local fare on their eastbound trip, as well as on their next westbound trip.
Late-Night Service
The transbay All Nighter Line 800 will operate regular service in the East Bay and pick up and drop off passengers at the 12th St./Oakland City Center BART station. Late-night BART trains will run hourly to selected stations from approximately 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday; 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday and Labor Day; and 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday. There will be no BART service from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Tuesday or on Wednesday before the bridge is scheduled to reopen. Please check www.bart.gov for additional details.
