AC Transit, in partnership with several regional transit agencies, has placed signs and brochures on buses to remind you to stay alert, and have a plan of action in case you notice suspicious activity or packages while waiting for the bus or some other public transit service. Onboard brochures include tips for identifying potential problems and for being prepared in the event of a dangerous or unusual situation.

The regional security awareness campaign, initiated by BART's Security Programs, was funded by a 2008 Transit Security grant from the Department of Homeland Security, and is based on a campaign used by the federal Transit Security Administrations. BART has partnered with AC Transit, Caltrain, Capitol Corridor, Golden Gate Transit, SamTrans, SFMTA and the VTA to create a communications campaign with a safety and security awareness message.  AC Transit's brochure encourages you to contact either a transit employee, or call numbers provided for the Alameda County Sheriff's office or the Contra Costa County Sheriffs office if you spot a suspicious individual or package on the bus. The brochures and posters are being displayed throughout the partnering agencies' vehicles and, in some case in their stations, throughout the month of September.
