RIDE LOCAL ON TRANSBAY ROUTES
Can I use a transbay bus for a local trip within the East Bay?
Yes, local riders are allowed on most Transbay lines EXCEPT for: FS, L, NX, NX1, NX2, NX3, U and W. You must inform your driver before paying your fare – the driver will change the farebox or Clipper reader to deduct the proper local fare amount.
How to ride local on a transbay bus:
1) Choose a transbay line that allows local riders.
2) Inform the driver that this is a local ride BEFORE paying your fare or tagging your Clipper card.
3) Wait for the driver to reset the farebox or Clipper card reader, then tag your card or insert your cash fare.
TRANSFERS
- Local BART-to-Bus Transfer:
Cash-paying riders receive a $0.25 discount on local rides to and from BART with a two-part paper transfer issued at BART. With Clipper the discount is applied as a one-time $0.50 discount on the first local bus trip away from BART. - Transfers between AC Transit Local and Transbay buses Using Clipper:
Riders who have first paid a transbay fare (either with e-cash, or a Transbay monthly pass) can transfer to a local bus for free The transfer is automatically applied on the second bus if boarded within two hours. When transferring from a local bus to a transbay bus, Clipper users pay the local fare on the first bus, and then an upgrade fare, as described above. See Interagency Transfer Chart for details. - Transferring to/from another transit agency:
Valid passes and transfers from participating agencies will be accepted by AC Transit for one local fare credit at intersecting points. If you are transferring to another participating agency, refer to the Interagency Transfer Chart, ask your AC Transit driver for an “Interagency Voucher” when boarding. Present this to the other agency’s driver for a free transfer or discount. Transfer is automatic when using Clipper.
