AC TRANSIT LAUNCHES CLOSEOUT ROUND OF PUBLIC HEARINGS, STARTING THIS WEEK

AC TRANSIT LAUNCHES CLOSEOUT ROUND OF PUBLIC HEARINGS, STARTING THIS WEEK

October 24,2023

Wednesday, October 25, the first of two public hearings toward the final adoption of all-new ward maps

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) is in the final stages of redistricting, which is the process of eliminating two At-large seats on the Board of Directors. When redistricting is completed by the close of 2023, there will be seven elected Board Directors, each representing a specific and more compact ward of residents.

In these final stages, the Board, in concert with considerable public input, has been fine-tuning draft ward maps, which were developed using an innovative online mapping tool, several workshops, and public hearings. On October 4, the Board of Directors tasked our transit district's demographer to generate a set of revised plans for final maps of the new wards.

As a result, beginning Wednesday, October 25, the AC Transit Board of Directors will initiate the closeout of public hearings to deliberate on the demographer's updated proposals, including progress toward solidifying all-new ward boundaries and the order of upcoming elections.

Each of the closeout public hearings will be held in person at 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA, 2nd Floor Board Room and virtually:

After the maps and sequencing are chosen for the upcoming 2024 and 2026 elections, the Board will convene the final public hearing, during which the Directors will gather public input, officially adopt the selected maps, and introduce the ordinance.

Draft ward maps are available for public review at ACTransit.org/redistricting. Riders and members of our East Bay communities may continue to submit comments via phone at (510) 891-7201 or email at myvoice@actransit.org.
