NEW FARES TAKE EFFECT ON TUESDAY, JULY 1

NEW FARES TAKE EFFECT ON TUESDAY, JULY 1

June 26,2025

Income-qualified, youth, seniors, and disabled riders can cut fares in half with Clipper START

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) would like to remind our valued East Bay riders that a fare adjustment will take effect on Tuesday, July 1.

The Board of Directors-approved fare adjustment will slightly raise the local adult cash fare by .25 cents, from $2.50 to $2.75, and the Transbay cash fare by .50 cents, from $6.00 to $6.50.

This marks the first time AC Transit has adjusted its fares since 2019.

Even with a careful approach to fares and significant internal cost-cutting following the pandemic, AC Transit begins the new fiscal year on July 1 with a projected $41.5 million budget shortfall. Without reliable, long-term funding solutions, that deficit could widen to over $72 million by fiscal year 2026–27.

To help stabilize our finances and protect current service levels – including the upcoming launch of our redesigned bus network, the Realign Plan, on August 10 – we are taking a series of financially responsible steps, which include modest fare adjustments.

That is why AC Transit encourages riders to pay their fare every time they board. Your fare helps preserve our bus network, keeping service on the road and our communities connected.

AC Transit invites riders to get the most out of their ride by tapping into the Clipper card. Clipper is not only the convenient way to ride but also the only way to unlock fare discounts.

Income-qualified riders can cut fares in half with Clipper START, which offers a 50% discount on single rides. Youth, seniors, and riders with disabilities also receive the same impressive 50% savings.
