AC TRANSIT BOARD VOTES TO FINALIZE REDISTRICTING, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13

December 11,2023

A final ward map and election sequence for 2024 and 2026 is slated to be made

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) is nearing the conclusion of redistricting, which will transition the policymaking Board of Directors from its current five Wards and two At-large directors to a seven-member ward-based system. This final meeting marks the conclusion of a thorough and inclusive process by which the Board and the community worked together to shape the future governance of AC Transit.

The Board's upcoming vote follows last month’s final public hearing. During the November 8 session, the Board gathered the public's input on two proposed ward mapping Ordinances:

The Board also considered rider and community feedback on two election sequencing options, both encompassing election cycles for 2024 and 2026.

  • Proposal One: Wards 1, 2, and 6 voting in 2024; Wards 3, 4, 5, and 7 in 2026
  • Proposal Two: Wards 1, 6, and 7 voting in 2024; Wards 2, 3, 4, and 5 in 2026

On Wednesday, December 13, the AC Transit Board of Directors is anticipated to make its ultimate decision regarding a ward map, election sequence, and the adoption of an ordinance to transition to a seven-ward election system.

The final vote will be hosted in person at the 2nd Floor Board Room of 1600 Franklin Street, Oakland, CA, or virtually:
