Fares, Tickets & Transfers
UPDATE: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, AC Transit temporarily enabled rear-door boarding and paused fare collection from March 15 through October 18, 2020. Now that protector shields have been installed near the operator and farebox area, riders are expected to board at front doors and pay fares as customary. (Please remember, face coverings are required to ride until further notice.)
Also, upon conclusion of the promotional “introductory free fare” period, the cost to ride Tempo Line 1T, effective 11/9/20, is the same as other AC Transit local service.
Note: The BART-to-Bus paper transfer ticket has been discontinued because it became outdated due to advanced technology on Tempo. Transfer discounts (from BART-to-Bus) & savings from multiple rides (bus-to-bus) are automatically received when using a pass &/or Clipper Card. Contactless fare payment is more efficient and greatly reduces bus boarding times. Mobile ticketing has been introduced as a payment option. Use the AC Transit Official Mobile App to access the mobile ticketing platform, or Clipper to pay fares upon boarding without using cash.
Keep using your Clipper card for automatic transfer discounts, as well as, for overall best value. If you don’t have one already, consider purchasing a Clipper card for the convenience of cashless fare payments and for the reduced costs for single rides, transfers or passes. Adult Clipper cards for most AC Transit fare types are available at Walgreens, Whole Foods and other participating retailers. Clipper cards can also be ordered online or by phone.
