Elections Information 2020

ATTENTION: Please contact the Registrar in the county of domicile for updated candidacy/filing procedures related to COVID-19. General information is provided below.

The official filing period begins on July 13, 2020 and ends on August 7, 2020 for persons interested in being a candidate in the November 3, 2020 general election for the AC Transit Board of Directors.

Three of the seven seats on the Board are up for election – two representing specific geographic areas (Wards 1 and 2) and a third representing the District At-Large (see maps below).

Qualifications of Office (See Transit District Law Public Utilities Code Sections 24581 through 24864).

  • Candidates must be a resident and voter of the District (PUC §24653).
  • Any person may be nominated for the office of director upon written petition of at least 50 qualified voters of the Ward in which a candidate resides or of the district for candidates seeking an at large position on the Board (PUC §24647).

UPDATED:  Nomination petitions and campaign reporting materials are prepared as a separate packet and can only be obtained from the elections office in your county. Alameda County residents can obtain these materials from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters Office at 1225 Fallon Street, G-1, Oakland (510) 272-6933.  The Contra Costa Elections Department has advised that Contra Costa County residents may obtain materials at the County Administration Building, 651 Pine Street, in Martinez.  Call (925) 335-7800 for more information.
