EASYPASS FAQ SECTION

EasyPass Participants Questions Answered

What is EasyPass?

Your individualized bus pass allowing unlimited rides on AC Transit to explore the East Bay and even San Francisco!

Who is eligible for an EasyPass?

Riders are eligible if their employer, college, or residence is participating in the EasyPass program. If not, you can provide their contact information for AC Transit to share information about the program.

How long is EasyPass valid?

Your EasyPass is valid as long as your employer, education institution or residential building is participating in the program. If you no longer are part of the location participating in the EasyPass program, you can continue to use your Clipper card by adding cash value or other passes to your card; however, your EasyPass for free, unlimited rides will be deactivated.

How do I get my EasyPass?

It’s easy! Just complete the online application provided by your organization. If you do not know the link, ask your EasyPass site coordinator. Once enrolled, your EasyPass can be mailed to your location within 7-10 business days.

Can I lend or give my EasyPass to a friend or relative? Can I sell it?

EasyPass is valid only for the person identified on your Clipper Card. Do not sell or share your EasyPass card.  The EasyPass card is not transferable or refundable and will be revoked if used by anyone else.

When I first get my EasyPass, is there something I should do?

Be sure to register your EasyPass card prior to first use by contacting Clipper Customer Services, (877) 878-8883 or go to clippercard.com to protect any added value (cash and other agency fare or passes) that you might put on your EasyPass Clipper card. The replacement of your card if lost is much easier if registered.

Write down your Clipper card serial number somewhere you will remember it. You will need to refer to your number if your card becomes defective, damaged, lost or stolen. You should also write down your name in the exact way it is printed on the card.

How do I use my EasyPass?

You simply “tag” the card on the Clipper card reader at the front of the bus each time you board. When you hear a single beep, your fare has been accepted. For problems, call the Clipper Customer Service Center toll-free at (877) 878-8883 to address your card issue. It is recommended to have back-up fare in case your card does not work.

If my card is lost or stolen, or just doesn’t work, what do I do?

If your Card has been lost, stolen, or is damaged or defective, call Clipper to deactivate your old Card and to request a replacement EasyPass. Tell Clipper that you are an institutional pass participant in the EasyPass program. Or go online to clippercard.com if you already registered your EasyPass card and report it lost or stolen.

Clipper Customer Services (877) 878-8883 or clippercard.com. Clipper charges a $3 Balance Transfer Fee (payable to Clipper) before a new card can be issued. Provide your mailing address and Clipper will mail your replacement Card directly to you. A Clipper card with only an EasyPass loaded on to it, will take seven to ten business days to replace.

Does my card work on BART and other Bay Area transit systems such as Muni, Ferry, etc.?

Yes. You can use your card on BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit and Ferries, Muni, SamTrans, VTA and more. To ride these other systems, you will need to add cash or other passes to your card. Visit www.clippercard.com for more information. Please note, for AC Transit, your EasyPass card will always indicate a $0 balance.

Can I still use my Clipper card if I’m no longer participating in the EasyPass program?

Yes, the card is yours to keep, but your EasyPass will be deactivated when you are no longer part of the program. You will have to add cash value or other passes to the card for it to be usable on AC Transit and other transit services that use Clipper. There are no refunds for the EasyPass.

If I have an existing Clipper card for Bart, Muni, etc., can I combine cards?

It is recommended that you keep your EasyPass card separate for your existing Clipper Card. Especially, if you have a separate discounted Senior discount card from Clipper.

Why does my EasyPass indicate $0 balance online?

The Clipper app or website will not indicate a cash value for EasyPass card holders. If a participant adds cash value to their card for other transit services such as s BART, Muni, etc., then a cash value will be displayed.

Can I use the Clipper app on my phone instead of my EasyPass Clipper card?

Yes, you can. Please note that once you add Clipper to your mobile wallet (Apple Pay or Google Pay) on your phone, the physical card will stop working.

How do I get answers to questions about my EasyPass?

Still have questions? Contact your local EasyPass site coordinator.

EasyPass Site Coordinator Program Support and Management

What do Site Coordinators do?

AC Transit's EasyPass Site Coordinators manage the distribution and administration of EasyPasses to their group. They oversee the provision of live application links to eligible riders, verify applicant qualifications, and provide assistance as needed throughout the application process and beyond. They also play a role in encouraging ridership by promoting the benefits of the EasyPass program to eligible riders. Additionally, Site Coordinators troubleshoot any issues that arise during the application process or with pass distribution, ensuring a smooth experience for applicants and riders alike. Alongside managing distribution and administration, they maintain detailed records of applications and passes issued.

How do my new riders apply?

To manage access to the application, the site coordinator will share the live application link with the group. Safeguard the link to prevent unqualified applicants from gaining access. Before granting access, qualifications of applicants will be verified to maintain integrity. Site coordinators provide assistance applicants who need help navigating the process.

The live application link, along with pass distribution rules (one pass per unit, one pass per resident, etc.), can be emailed to qualified riders. Riders will then be notified via email or other means to schedule an office appointment to sign up for their EasyPass. During the appointment, residents can be asked to bring their phones with them, and upon arrival, the live link will be emailed to them while being guided through the process.

How do I determine if someone is eligible to receive an EasyPass?

Site Coordinators determine eligibility keeping in mind there is a limitation of EasyPass cards procured for their organizations.

Do I need to record and keep track of EasyPass registrants?

It is highly recommended that Site Coordinators log all registrations. Site Coordinators will be copied via email on all registrations. An Excel template is available to assist in tracking participants and is located under the Support Forms section of this resource web safe. IMPORTANT: When your participants drop out of the program, please notify AC Transit to deactivate their EasyPass card. Send this notification to clipper@actransit.org.

A master participant list for your location is available to Site Coordinators upon request. Send this request to easypassinfo@actransit.org. It is recommended to reconcile your participant list vs. AC Transit's master list once per quarter.

What comes after riders sign up?

The application is sent to AC Transit’s Card Producer who uses Clipper Adult-fare Cards with your group’s serial numbers to make the EasyPass.

The EasyPass card and user guide are mailed to the user’s address within 7 business days.

Where can I go with EasyPass?

Anywhere AC Transit goes – anytime! Go our Trip Planner.

Can I go to San Francisco for free?

Yes. You can jump on AC Transit Transbay lines that take you across the Bay Bridge to the Salesforce Transit Center. From there you can jump on other transit services in the city. You will need to pay regular fare for other transit agencies, or use cash loaded onto your Clipper EasyPass card to pay for rides and transfers.

What is the AC Transit EasyPass?

AC Transit’s EasyPass program provides riders with a bus pass that is valid at any time on all AC Transit lines, both local and transbay. The EasyPass is “loaded” on a Clipper® regional fare card with your photo and name on the back.

Can AC Transit come to my location to educate and promote the program to my community?

Yes, we can! You can request onsite promotional support at easypassinfo@actransit.org.

Why is EasyPass a good thing?

Your EasyPass is a great alternative to driving alone. You can save on gas, parking and other hassles. Using your EasyPass reduces parking demands and alleviates traffic congestion.
